ST. JOHN’S MILESTONES

 1916…St. John’s first meets in Ono Goos’ home.

1918-1922…Membership doubled to 100, voting 8 to 19, communicant 30-55, Sunday School 1-30.

1920…August..First Church is dedicated.  This building later became the parsonage.  Ladies Aid, Youth Group, Confirmation classes and Sunday School were organized.  First organ purchased and dedicated.

1921…August..St. John’s became official member of LCMS at Nebraska District convention.

1937…April 4..New Building dedicated by 389 worshippers.  Adult choir organized in fall and directed by Herman Miller.

1939…St. John’s congregation became self-supporting.

1950…Study and planning begun for desperately needed worship and classroom space.  Evening Guild organized.

1952…KNEB one-hour radio broadcast begun with Les Proctor as recorder and announcer for 39 years until May 1999.

1955…Dedication of remodeled and expanded building.

1963…Faith Lutheran in Gering established as a Daughter church with 140 members transferred.

1969..Chrismons (Christian symbols) Christmas tree decorations made with gold beads and pearls by ladies of St. John’s.

1977…January 4..Wee Wisdom preschool begun under direction of Elaine Beyers and continued until 1991.

1981…February 1..Pipe organ installed and sanctuary remodeled to accommodate new organ.

1985…August 25..New education and fellowship building dedicated.

1992…Handicapped lift w/extended casket platform installed.

1998..Chimes were purchased and adult chime choir was formed.  More chimes were added and a youth chime choir formed.

2000…Pew pads added to pews.

2001…May 31..Air conditioning for church.

2005…Sept. 19..Concrete parking lot.

2006…August 23..Bronze glass doors on church entry and annex.

2008…July 15..New carpet in sanctuary.

2010..Nov. 27..Handicap Accessible Van.

2015…March..New digital sign.
